Staines Preparatory School: New Build

Staines Preparatory School expanded their education facilities and capacity with the construction of a single story extension to the existing classroom block.

Whilst the extension was straightforward, there were significant logistical problems including restricted access to the school and the challenges of undertaking building work via part of the playground and car park.

With the full cooperation of the school, we planned and agreed access routes and delivery times. Deliveries and movements had to be carefully coordinated and controlled because of the movement of children and adults in the area. Every care was taken to fence the site securely, erect signs to ensure the children kept to safe areas and a pedestrian crossing installed to control construction traffic.

The project encompassed traditional construction methods, trench pour foundations, pre cast concrete floors, cavity walls and trussed roof with a slate finish. In addition to M&E installations and internal finish, we also undertook landscaping to the perimeter of the school

The Site Manager delivered a talk to the children during morning Assembly on the subject of safety. There was no interruption in the teaching timetable.
